Breathe for Balance "Nadi Shodhana" | Yoga Pranayama | Young Yoga with Sylvia

Pranayama is yogic breathing. In Yoga, there are quite a few types of pranayama. In this video, we will be practicing "Nadi Shodhana" which is alternate nostril breathing. Nadi means the channels, pathways of prana. Shodhana means cleansing. So thru this practice, the inhalation and exhalation alternate between the right and left nostrils by using a hand mudra to block one nostril at a time. This technique lengthens our breath, clears the nasal passageways, and balances the hemispheres of the brain and energy flow between the Ida and Pingala. We have 3 basic nadis in our system, ida pingala and sushumna. we will be activating ida and pingala nadis. Ida is the left channel, it’s feminine, cool, represents the moon. It ends up in the left nostril. So when we breathe thru left nostrils, it connects to the left hemisphere of the brain and stimulates the relaxation response. Pingala is the right channel, it’s masculine, warm, represents the sun. it ends up in the right nostril. When we breathe thru right nostril, it connects to the right hemisphere of the brain and energizes our mind. Benefits of Nadi Shodhan Pranayama: 1. calms and centers the mind. 2. helps to bring the mind back to the present moment. 3. Works therapeutically for most circulatory and respiratory problems. 4. Releases accumulated stress in the mind and body effectively and helps to relax. 5. Helps harmonize the left and right hemispheres of the brain, which correlates to the logical and emotional sides of our personality. 6. Helps purify and balance the nadis - the subtle energy channels, thereby ensuring a smooth flow of prana (life force) through the body. 7. Maintains body temperature. ******************************************** You may also reach me at My website: http://www.youngyogawithsylvia.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yogisylvia/ Facebook: http://bit.ly/36XLfEj Twitter: https://twitter.com/yogisylvia Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/sylvia0779/ ******************************************** Disclaimer Yoga provides great benefits, but only you know your own body and limits. Kapalbhati For Beginners | Yoga Pranayama | Young Yoga with Sylvia

Kapalbhati is one of the six Shatkarmas(techniques of internal purification) in yoga. In Sanskrit, Kapal means the skull and Bhati means to shine.  But it can also be regarded as a pranayama practice. When we practice Kapalbhati, the exhalation is forceful and rapid, while the inhalation is passive and natural. We don't hold the breath in Kapalbhati. The strong forceful exhalations throw out the carbon dioxide from the lungs and the inhalation increases the oxygen content in the blood. The abdominal muscles forcefully move inwards towards the diaphragm thereby throwing the air out with exhalation. The inhalation is done in a passive relaxed way to fill the lungs with fresh air. The benefits of Kapalbhati are huge!!! 1. Kapalbhati cleans the cranial sinuses and can relieve cerebral thrombosis. 2. It purifies the nerves and the pranic channels. 3. It gives a clear mind and helps to control thoughts. 4. It removes all impurities of the body. 5. It is the best practice available to oxygenate the blood. 6. It strengthens the abdominal muscles. 7. It helps to regulate the breathing mechanism. 8. It prepares the body and mind to take up advanced practices of Pranayama. 9. It prepares the mind for meditation. MAKE SURE TO PRACTICE WITH EMPTY TUMMY! Better practice in the morning after asana and before meditation. ********************************************************************* Who shall not practice Kapalbhati? 1. Pregnant women; 2. Heart diseases; 3. High blood pressure; 4. Hernia; 5. Spinal injury; 6.
