Welcome to my website!

Hi, Yogis, my name is Sylvia Young. I'm a passionate yoga teacher, a mindfully dedicated practitioner as well as a mother of 3, based in California, USA. I was first drawn into yoga back in 2007. It has become a part of my life for over 10 years. I got spinal injury in 2016 due to labor and caused me chronic lower back pain and immobility. It was yoga that pulled me out of my physical and mental suffering. I decided to become a yoga instructor in order to share with people that yoga heals and has its therapeutic value, which goes far beyond the physical exercise. I love pranayama, meditation, philosophical and spiritual dimensions of yoga. My daily-basis practice has helped me grow stronger, more flexible and fearless, both on and off the mat.

I'm dedicating to letting more people know the essential meaning of yoga as well as how to practice yoga in a sustainable way rather than a perfect way.

Be Peaceful & Stay Young!

Namaste!

Brahmacarya | Yoga Philosophy | Young Yoga with Sylvia (25 Minutes)

Practice Brahmacarya with me in this 25 minutes practice, finding the balance between pushing through your edge and not going over your edge, modifying your postures whenever you need, resting at Balasana whenever you need, challenging yourself whenever you feel it's not enough. Brahmacarya translates as the concept of celibacy or, applied to a more modern lifestyle, it is the art of continency, sustaining energy, and not depleting your vitality. Don't forget to share, like, and subscribe if you find my videos are helpful. Thanks for your support! Stay safe and well! Asteya Non-Stealing | Quarantine Yoga | Young Yoga with Sylvia (75 Minutes)

In this video, we will be practicing the third Yama "Asteya/Non-stealing" while we are moving through balancing postures with Hasta Mudra (a mudra for receiving and offering) and an affirmation, following a short meditation at the very beginning. In Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, “Those who live by avoiding theft have all wealth materialized for them”. Speaking of Non-stealing, first thing first, you might think of Non-stealing from others’ materials/properties. Yes, you can practice Asteya by sticking with this layer. Nothing wrong. But yoga always has different layers. It can also be non-stealing from the credit for other’s work, non-stealing from other’s time, non-stealing from the bounty of the earth, and more importantly non-stealing from yourself. Your freedom, your happiness, your dream. Like sacrificing your happiness for chasing shiny objects that are ultimately empty or comparing with someone else who you think is more successful than you. Comparison is the thief of joy. We were all born unique. Comparing will make us feel we are not prosperous, which steals our confidence, happiness, and contentment, and cause us to suffer. Chasing after what others doing or having is stealing from your own joy. Why did Patanjali say "To one established in non-stealing, all wealth comes"? What is wealth? A prosperous world is not where one person has all the cash. It’s a world where people have what they need and what they need is not deprived of them. But sometimes people around us are insecure because of “WANT”. Like the current situation, there’s a myth that if we are not sick, we don’t have to worry about others. But for Pandemic, it’s wrong. There are a bunch of people there, you can get sick too. So we need to go back to the first Yama "Ahimsa" and practice Non-harm and compassion. Not engaging in Ahima non-harm as the basic practice will cause other people to feel insecure and steal their sense of security during this period of time. If we are completely free from stealing and greed, contented with what we have and if we develop a feeling of wholeness and completeness, we are not likely to feel deprived or "less than", all wealth comes to us. ************************************************************* Check out the videos about the first and second Yama practice: Ahimsa: https://youtu.be/bNuW4q9zttY Satya: https://youtu.be/Sl1oTb0X1j4 Brahmacarya: https://youtu.be/ITz2PHr-3yE ************************************* The followings are my schedules for Live yoga classes via Zoom with the Sanctuary Wellness Center and Yoga Studio. Satya Truthfulness | Quarantine Yoga | Yoga Philosophy | Young Yoga with Sylvia (60 Minutes)

In this class, I will continue to guide you back to this ancient wisdom from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, which is the 2nd Yama "Satya" while we are moving on the mat so that you can take it off the mat into your daily life. Satya is truthfulness, honesty to ourselves, and others. It’s very similar to ahimsa. We want the truth in our thoughts, speech, and action. Like when you are doing a posture, we really need to be truthful with ourselves. Sometimes our egos will push us to do more than we should or more than our bodies really want us to. We think well we live in this culture where pushing ourselves is kinda a norm. we are always expected to do more, work harder, and make progress. If we are not progressing fast, we will push ourselves harder. This ends up putting us in poses that aren’t really authentic to our bodies. Maybe we have an injury that we are not acknowledging or we are not practicing ahimsa with. Maybe sometimes we need a gentle practice but you just think you have to stick with power yoga. So figuring out what you honestly need and being able to have an honest conversation with yourself is very important for creating a sense of balance. Being very authentic and sincere in the way you live, the way you present yourself, and the way that you say to people, that’s really powerful cuz you have this strong trust within yourself. You know the thoughts that you are going to speak out that you really mean, the words that you say to people that you really mean. And you actually do what you really mean. So this gives you a powerful and grounded feeling cuz you know that you are not going to pretend and be all over the map. So your word is strong when you practice Satya. Satya is practicing truthfulness. Satya is about living our truth. It is that simple. there are as many ways to do this as there are people who practice Satya and no one can tell you how you should listen for and find the truth within yourself. It makes sense to talk things over with someone you trust but the point of the discussion is to come closer to your truth not to leave someone to relieve you of the responsibility of discerning your truth. For some of us, it is a long road back to our own truth because we live in a culture and within which truth is a rare commodity. 💕Yin Yoga for Mamas💕 | Quarantine Yoga | Young Yoga with Sylvia (70 Minutes)

Happy Mother’s Day! 💖💗💓 This Video is made especially for busy mamas, but not limited to mamas, it’s also for all caretakers and people who bend over a lot and carry, lift, dig, etc. Mamas spend your day lifting carrying twisting moving children and all the equipment that goes with them, strollers, package, blankets, everything you do to hold children in place. I remember when my 3 kids were much younger, carrying them on one hip and carrying a lot of equipment on the other and dragging a stroller behind me or pushing a stroller in front of me. How much back pain that caused me and how I always felt I was sort of at a slant one way or the other. I want to offer something to help relieve that and I know as a mom, we have very little time. But at least take advantage of Mother’s Day to practice some Ahimsa (Non-Harm) to yourself, your body. Give your body and your mind a break. I wish everyone has a restful Mother’s Day! Ahimsa | 60 Minute Quarantine Yoga | Yoga Philosophy | Young Yoga with Sylvia

This is a 60 min yoga practice of Ahimsa(Non-harming, Non-violence, Compassion), starting with a 5 min meditation on Ahimsa. From this week, let's practice asanas(Postures), pranayama(breathing), Pratyahara(withdrawal of senses, meditation) as well as dive into Patanjali's Yoga Sutras little by little in each class. I invite all of you to not only practice yoga on the mat, but also in your life. There are 8 Limbs of Yoga. Yamas(moral and ethical guidelines, relationships with others and self) are the first limb of yoga. The first of the five Yamas is Ahimsa. Ahimsa is non-harm in words and actions and thoughts. And Ahimsa is the foundation of all the other Yamas. In fact its also the foundation of our entire yoga practice. Because Ahimsa is rooted in love and that love is based on a concept of unity. There are three main aspects where we tend to not practice ahimsa. First, physically, maybe the foods we are eating are not good for us. Maybe we are pushing ourselves until the point we get sick. Second, we can add a little more Ahimsa to our words. How we are speaking to others. How we speak about others and ourselves. Third, add Ahimsa to our thoughts. Practicing compassion with our thoughts in mind. When we have these judgments criticisms towards ourselves, towards others, that’s violent thinking. Ahimsa needs to be practiced. You don't have to good at yoga to practice yoga, you don't have to be flexible to practice yoga. Yoga has so much wisdom for us to explore beyond the mat. It's a life journey. Let's practice together. 70 Minutes Yoga for Detox | Live Zoom Yoga Class at Quarantine | Young Yoga with Sylvia

This is a 70 min yoga asana practice for detoxing our body and mind. Twisting poses can help to squeeze the organs and will be the most beneficial to your detoxing practice. When we twist, our blood flow is going to the liver, gall bladder, stomach, spleen, and intestines. This allows fresh clean blood to enter your internal organs. Backbends like Bhujangasana cobra can strengthen your back but can also create a little pressure on the abdomen which will encourage digestion and aid elimination of waste. Yummy inversions(heart above your head) like Adho Mukha Svanasana down dog, drain lymph fluids from the legs and re-circulate through the body. This means the immune system will be working at its best. Let's hop on the mat and detox our inner bodies. The followings are my schedules for Live yoga classes via Zoom with the Sanctuary Wellness Center and Yoga Studio.
